Boredom Busters: Watercolour Art

Hello all,

We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Watch for weekend Boredom Busters on Saturday and/or Sunday. See which ones you can do, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom of this blog.

Today's theme is Watercolour Art!

DIY Marbled Paper: https://artfulparent.com/diy-marbled-paper/

For a baby-friendly variation of this activity, use whipped cream instead of shaving cream, and food colouring works great!

Scribble Drawings: https://artfulparent.com/scribble-drawings-with-watercolor-paint-gorgeous-and-abstract/

This is a fantastic process art activity. Create a series of scribbles and squiggles, and fill them in with different watercolours. Each picture is as unique as it is colourful!

For an bonus activity, use 4x6 inch paper to make prints for cards/postcards!

Pointillism Art: https://artfulparent.com/pointillism-art-for-kids/

We've done our fair share of pointillism art - Q-Tip painting! It's such a fun and different way to paint. Try some free painting, and then bring in some specific shapes. Have them create their own connect-the-dots. The possibilities are endless!

Blow Painting: https://artfulparent.com/blow-painting-with-straws/

This activity will definitely strengthen your lungs! Blow through a straw, for a targeted approach, or just use your own lips and go splatter-crazy! You can try different lengths of straws to see which is most comfortable.

Use a toothpick or other narrow instrument to add some embellishments to your art. So many possibilities!

Hopefully these activities help break up the day, and get your family engaging in the wonder of watercolour art.

If your kids loved these activities, feel free to send us feedback or pictures on any of our social media platforms, linked below.
