Boredom Busters: Spring Into the Kitchen

Hello all,

We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Watch for weekend Boredom Busters on Saturday and/or Sunday. See which ones you can do, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom of this blog.

Today's theme is Spring Into the Kitchen!

No Bake Desserts: https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/g2887/138-no-bake-desserts/

I know, it seems strange to start off a baking blog with "no bake", but some of my favorite recipes happen outside of the oven.

Take these Oreo Cookie Balls for instance. They are a delicious and classy treat, with very minimal work/prep. Add a little peppermint extract, and you have mint chocolate truffles!

For this Icebox Cake recipe, all you need is heavy cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and chocolate wafer cookies.

Another great tried and true no-bake snack is Confetti Squares! These are delciously wicked, and so easy to make!

Smoothies: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/articles/50-smoothies

Smoothies are a delicious, refreshing treat that have the added bonus of being good for you.

Try something classic, like a Banana Smoothie. Add a little bit of orange and some greek yogurt to this smoothie for an extra zing!

Raspberry Orange Smoothies are so delicious and taste like summer! Ignore those snowflakes that keep falling blend up some summery goodness!

If you want something a little different, try the Spa Cucumber Smoothie! A little cucumber, a little lime, a lot of deliciousness!

Dessert Bars: https://www.thespruceeats.com/best-bar-cookies-480410

We'll end with some scrumptious dessert bars. They are tried and true comfort food, and who can resist sneaking an extra one (or two)?

Keep up with that ode to summer with some Key Lime Bars.

If you have any apples leftover from Easter, give these Apple Pie Bars a try!

For a little more summery goodness, try these Blueberry Cake Bars. Get creative, and have fun in the kitchen!

And finally, my personal favourite: Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake Bars. Sooooo good!

Hopefully these activities help break up the day, and get your family excited about springing into the kitchen for some delicious fun!
