1000 Books Week Fifty-Two

It's been a hot couple of days, especially with the air conditioning down at the Library! Hopefully it will be back up and running today.

Our last Star Reader of the Week was Dane!

This week's Star Reader is Trent! Congratulations!

Our last Book of the Week was "Home the Library Cat", by Reeve Lindbergh.

Our fifty-second Book of the Week is "Daisy Comes Home", by Jan Brett.

"Mei Mei has the six happiest hens in China. She gives them treats and fresh hay baths, and when she calls to them-gu gu gu gu gu!-they all run to her as fast as they can. But one of the hens, Daisy, is not always so happy. The other hens pick on Daisy and push her off the perch every night, knowing that she is too small to stand up to them. Then one day Daisy accidentally drifts out onto the river in a basket and must quickly learn how to survive. When Daisy finds her way home, this plucky little hen is no longer afraid.
Jan Brett and her husband, Joe, traveled with their daughter-in-law, Yun, and her husband, Sean, to China, the land where Yun was born. During this trip, Jan found the inspiration for Daisy's story."

1000 Books Week Fifty-One

Time just seems to be flying on by! Summer is officially upon us, with Canada Day just around the corner! Don't forget, registration is now open for our Summer Reading Program!

Our last Star Reader of the Week was Spencer!

This week's Star Reader is Dane! Congratulations!

Our last Book of the Week was "The Blue Hippopotamus", by Phoebe Gilman, her long-awaited final book.

Our fifty-first Book of the Week is "Homer the Library Cat", by Reeve Lindbergh.

"Homer is a very quiet cat. He lives in a very quiet house with a very quiet lady. But one day, while the lady is away, Homer hears a very loud sound, and out the window he goes! Poor Homer just wants to find a spot where he can curl up and be quiet, but his hometown is a surprisingly loud place. Will Homer find a bit of calm in all the noise? And will he ever find his quiet lady? Reeve Lindbergh's cheerful, rhyming text pairs with Anne Wilsdorf's charming illustrations for a story-lover's ode to everyone's favourite quiet place." - Candlewick

1000 Books Week Fifty

We're playing a little catch-up on our 1000 Books blog! There will be two Star Readers this week (two blogs).

Our last Star Reader of the Week was Haven!

Here's Hayden getting her prize from the week before:

(She was happy to be Star Reader, I promise!)

This week's Star Reader is Spencer! Congratulations!

Our last Book of the Week was "Bear Despair", by Gaëtan Dorémus.

Our next Book of the Week is, "The Blue Hippopotamus", by Phoebe Gilman.

"A young hippo falls madly in love with an Egyptian princess. Desperate to be with her, the hippo asks a magician to change him into "something she could love." The magician reveals that he's unable turn a hippo into a human, but can turn him into a toy, and he grants the hippo the power to turn himself back into his real self whenever he chooses. The excited hippo accepts this offer, and becomes the princess's new toy — but will this be enough?
Based on a story by Joan Grant, this is Phoebe Gilman's long-awaited final book. The illustrations by Joanne Fitzgerald are inspired by the sketches Phoebe drew before her death in 2002." - North Winds Press
