Journey to Learning! Literacy Day

Join us on Friday, January 27th from 1-2 pm for a trip around the world that encourages literacy and numeracy.






Learning happens everywhere, and it's easy to make learning part of your daily live. Learning can take you anywhere!


We will also feature some special guests, stories, prizes and snacks.

GASP Starting Up Again!


G.A.S.P (Great After School Program) is starting up again on January 5th! 
From art and board games to food and science experiments, this program will amaze and entertain. 
Come and hang out with your friends. Snacks and Refreshments provided. 

Time: Thursdays 4-5
Ages: 7-12
No Registration required

Christmas


Christmas

1.            Storytime – Welcome Song

2.            Read first story The 12 Bugs of Christmas, Tacky's Christmas, A Porcupine in a Pine Tree

3.            Song: Hat and whiskers, belt and boots
Hat and whiskers, belt and boots, belt and boots, belt and boots.
Hat and whiskers, belt and boots,
Twinkling eyes and a cherry red nose.

4.            Read second story The Christmas Giant, Oh, What a Christmas!

5.            Song: Rudolph
Rudolph, the red nosed reindeer...... (hands up like antlers)
Had a very shiny nose....(point to nose)
And if you ever saw it...(wooo, wooo!)
You would even say it glows....(hands out around face "glowing")
All of the other reindeer...(hands up like antlers)
Used to laugh and call him names...(make "raspberries" with mouth)
They never let poor Rudolph...(boo, hoo...use hands to wipe tears while saying it)
Join in any reindeer games...(slap legs, clap, hands out, clap)
Then one foggy Christmas eve,
Santa came to say: (we use deep voices now)
Rudolph with your nose so bright, Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?
Then all the reindeer ...(hands up for antlers) loved him
As they shouted out with glee...(rah-rah, ziss-boom-bah!)
Rudolph the red nosed  reindeer (hands up for antlers)
You'll go down in history!

6.            Read third story Stick Man, That's Good! That's Bad! On Santa's Journey

7.            Craft:      Foam Christmas Ball
Decorate using foam stickers, glitter foam that is cut into shapes, sequins, stickers etc. Thread ribbon through and tie to make hanging ornament.

Letter K


Letter K –Kittens, kangaroos, koalas, karate, kings and kites
2’s and 3’s, 4’s and 5’s

1.             1. Storytime – Welcome Song
Storytime is starting, starting, starting.

2.           2. Read first story Curious Kitten Peek A Boo!, Snap!, Three Little Kittens

3.            3. Five little kittens
Five little kittens standing in a row (hold up 5 fingers)
They nod their heads to the children so (bend fingers)
They run to the left, they run to the right (run fingers to the left and then to the right)
They stand up and stretch in the bright sunlight (stretch fingers out tall)
Along comes a dog who's in for some fun (hold up one finger from opposite hand)
MEOW! See those little kittens run (let fingers run).

5.        5.  Flannel board: Five Knights in Shining Armor
Five knights in shining armor,
Fearless and brave,
Went dragon hunting deep in a cave.
The dragon started breathing fire,
The knights’ knees were all aquiver,
So one little knight took off for the river!
(repeat counting down to zero)
 
6. Action Rhyme: Kangaroo!
Jump, jump, jump (Jump)
Goes the kangaroo (Jump)
I thought only one (Hold up one finger)
But now I see two! (Hold up two fingers)
Momma and her baby
With his head popping out (Make a fist, have other hand pop out)
He holds on tight (Hug yourself)
As they jump all about! (Jump)

Crazy crabs walk sideways, (move sideways)
What a giddy way to go!
Snails slip slide forwards (move forward slowly)
And that is very slow!
Ducks waddle, waddle, (waddle)
And that is funny too,
And what about the hopping
Of the big red kangaroo? (hop like a kangaroo)

9. Craft- Koala Bear
Materials:  Koala bear shape cut from construction paper, markers, popsicle stick, glue, green paper.
Draw on face of koala bear, colour stick brown and glue on leaves to make a eucalyptus tree, glue on koala bear.
