Hello all,
We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some
resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of
social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of
activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Watch for
weekend Boredom Busters on Saturday and/or Sunday. See which
ones you can do, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on
any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom
of this blog.
Today's theme is Math 2.0!
Let's get ready for some more math fun!
Create Your Own Theme Park: http://musingsfromthemiddleschool.blogspot.com/2015/05/how-do-you-end-your-school-year.html
This project includes geometry, construction, and art! Plan out your ideal theme park, draw it out on graph paper (you can make your own with paper, ruler, and pencil), label your park areas, and get colouring. Dream up your favourite rides and give them ridiculous names - the wackier the better!
Ultimate Paper Airplane Competition: https://www.thethinkerbuilder.com/2016/05/flyin-to-end-of-year.html
Constructing the perfect paper airplane takes into account physics, aerodynamics, and of course, mad paper-folding skills.
Spaghetti Tower: https://tinkerlab.com/spaghetti-tower-marshmallow-challenge/
This activity is all about engineering. Build the strongest and tallest Spaghetti tower you can! Use tape to make your structure secure, or try your luck with mini marshmallows!
Hopefully these activities help break up the day, and get your family engaging in the hidden joys of math!
If your kids loved these activities, feel free to send us feedback or
pictures on any of our social media platforms, linked below.
