Tales for Toddlers - October 5

Welcome back to Tales for Toddlers! This fun program is geared towards children 2 and under, though all are welcome to attend. We read stories, sing songs, play with puppets, and just have fun!

We read:

6 Weeks of Colour - Butterflies

Our fourth week of colour took flight! We're learning all about butterflies!

Interesting facts about butterflies:

- Butterflies can't hear, but they can feel vibrations
- Butterflies taste with their feet
- Butterflies smell with their antennae
- Female butterflies are usually bigger, and live longer than male butterflies
- Like crabs and lobsters, butterflies have skeletons on the outside of their bodies (exoskeletons)

A little chrysalis to sleep in.

The Fuzzy Caterpillar (Tune: The Itsy Bitsy Spider) 

The fuzzy caterpillar
Curled upon a leaf,
Spun her little chrysalis,
And then feel asleep.
While she was sleeping,
She dreamed that she could fly,
And later when she woke up,
She was a butterfly! 

Next, we made our craft!

6 Weeks of Colour - Flowers!

Our third week of colour smells fabulous! We're learning all about flowers!

Interesting facts about flowers:

- Roses are related to apples, raspberries, cherries, peaches, plums, nectarines, pears, and almonds.


- The largest flower in the world is the titan arums, which grows flowers 10 feet high and 3 feet wide. It grows in the rainforest of Sumatra, Indonesia, and Malaysia Borneo in Sabah and Sarawak.


- The juice from bluebell flowers can be used to make glue.


- Moon flowers only bloom at night, and close during the day.
