Boredom Busters: Recycled Art

Hello all,

We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Watch for weekend Boredom Busters on Saturday and/or Sunday. See which ones you can do, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom of this blog.

Today's theme is Recycled Art!

Cork Love Bugs: https://www.notimeforflashcards.com/2014/01/cork-love-bugs-valentines-day-craft.html

This is a perfect craft for anyone with a collection of wine corks hanging around. Put them to good use with these adorable love bugs!

There are so many great crafts you can do with wine corks. Check out these DIY Stamps!

Juice Jug Rocket: https://www.notimeforflashcards.com/2009/08/recycled-rocket-craft.html

How cool is this? Let your imagination take flight with this recycled rocket ship! Make it your own with some fun embellishments. Don't have foam for rocket flames? Try tissue paper or construction paper. You can even cut up some old fabric! The possibilities are endless!

Soda Bottle Flower Prints: https://innerchildfun.com/2010/03/flower-prints-from-soda-bottles.html

This is a great project that turns even the most skeptic kids (and adults) into artists! Pick an assortment of bottles and colors, and create your own flower garden! Make a background for a place-mat. Make your own greeting cards. So many colourful options!

Newspaper Pirate Hat: https://www.notimeforflashcards.com/2008/06/arrrrr-matey.html

Okay, this might be the coolest one yet! Before you recycle those newspapers, revamp them into a fantastic opportunity for dramatic play! Bingo dabbers work great, but markers or paint do just as well! While you're waiting for your newspaper to try, check out Puppy Pirates #4: Sea Sick on cloudLibrary!

Hopefully these activities help break up the day, and get your family engaged in creating some fantastic recycled art!
