Boredom Busters: Colour Explosion

Hello all,

We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Watch for weekend Boredom Busters on Saturday and/or Sunday. See which ones you can do, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom of this blog.

Today's theme is Colour Explosion!

Travelling Waters: https://funlearningforkids.com/rainbow-walking-water-science-experiment-kids/

This is a simple and fun colour experiment to do with your kids. Try it in a straight line, a circle, or get even more creative with your shapes. Much fun to be had!

Stained Glass Sugar: https://www.stevespanglerscience.com/lab/experiments/stained-glass-sugar/

The project requires the use of heat, so supervision is a necessity, but the finished product is both beautiful and edible! Your masterpiece awaits!

DIY Kaleidoscope: https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/articles/1008403/diy-kaleidoscope-craft-for-kids/

This activity requires a lot of materials, but look around and see what you can scrape together for it. If all else fails, a Pringles tube, aluminum foil, sequins, and tissue paper will have the same effect. The only limit is your imagination!

Balloon Splatter Painting: https://www.hellowonderful.co/post/balloon-splatter-painting-with-tools-fun-outdoor-art-project-for-kids/

This is definitely an outdoor activity, so aim for a sunny day when doing this one. Parent supervision is a must with this one, but in lieu of a screwdriver, you can also use a safety pin or a thumbtack to pop the balloons. With older children, we've also used darts and popped the balloons from further back.

Let your creativity loose and have some splatter-paint fun!

Hopefully these activities help break up the day and get your family engaging in some excellent explosions of colour.

If your kids loved these activities, feel free to send us feedback or pictures on any of our social media platforms, linked below.
