1000 Books Before Kindergarten Year Two

Welcome back!

We had a brief hiatus over the Summer, but now we're back with more books and Star Readers!

Congratulations to Lina, our newest Star Reader of the Week! Come by and pick up your prize!

Our Book of the Week is "Voices in the Park", by Anthony Browne.

"Four different voices tell their own versions of the same walk in the park. The radically different perspectives give a fascinating depth to this simple story which explores many of the author’s key themes, such as alienation, friendship and the bizarre amid the mundane." - Corgi

We've changed up our Reading Beanstalk in the Library - now we're decorating it with flowers! The next time you bring in a completed Reading Sheet, grab a flower to decorate!

Stay tuned for our next Star Reader and Book of the Week!

Action Poem: Five Little Elephants
View full image
Five little elephants rowing toward the shore,
One fell in and then there were four.
Four little elephants climbing up a tree,
One slid down and then there were three.
Three little elephants living in the zoo,
One walked away and then there were two.
Two little elephants playing in the sun,
One fell asleep and then there was one.

One little elephant isn’t any fun,
Abra-ca-da-bra! Then there were none!

Song:  Do your Ears Hang Low

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder
Like a Continental Soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

Sitting on top is the Mother Hen.  (Fold one hand over the other.)
Crackle, crackle, crackle; (Clap hands three times.)
What do I see?
Ten fluffy chicks, (Hold up ten fingers again.)
As yellow as can be!

Letter D

Letter D – Dogs, Donkeys, Dragons, Ducks and Dinosaurs.

Storytime – Welcome Song and Storytime is Starting Song

Fingerplay: Five Little Dragons
One little dragon with scales of blue;
Ran to meet the green one,
And then there were two.
Two little dragons sitting under a tree;
The red dragon joined them,
And then there were three.
Three little dragons, wishing there were more;
Along came the purple dragon,
And then there were four.
Four little dragons, happy to be alive;
Found a yellow dragon,
And then there were five.
Five little dragons all out to play;
“Watch out, they breathe fire,” is all I have to say.

Nursery Rhyme:  The Paws on the Dog [Tune: Wheels on the Bus]
The paws on the dog go trot, trot, trot.
Trot, trot, trot, trot, trot, trot.
The paws on the dog go trot, trot, trot.
All through the town.
The ears on the dog go flop, flop, flop…
The nose on the dog goes sniff, sniff, sniff…

The tongue on the dog goes lick, lick, lick…
The bark on the dog goes woof, woof, woof…
The tail on the dog goes wag, wag, wag…
The people with the dogs go, “SIT!”

Song: Five Little Ducks (use duck puppet glove)
Five little ducks went out to play Over the hill and far away
Mama duck said "Quack, Quack, Quack" And four little ducks came waddling back.
Four little ducks went out to play Over the hill and far away
Mama duck said "Quack, Quack, Quack" And three little ducks came waddling back.
Three little ducks...
Two little ducks...
One little duck went out to play Over the hill and far away
Mama duck said "Quack, Quack, Quack" And no little ducks came waddling back.
No little ducks went out to play Over the hill and far away
PAPA duck said "QUACK, QUACK, QUACK" And five little ducks came waddling back!
