Hello all,
We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some
resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of
social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of
activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Watch for
weekend Boredom Busters on Saturday and/or Sunday. See which
ones you can do, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on
any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom
of this blog.
Today's theme is Poetry!
Poetry Prompts: https://www.facebook.com/events/1054672021586737/
April is Poetry Month, and the library is providing weekly prompts. Create your own original poem, based on the provided prompts, or your own imagination.
1st Week's Prompt: The Sound of Silence
2nd Week's Prompt: Taste the Rainbow
And the end of the month, we'll run two Open Mic Night events, one for youth and one for adults. Share your poems with your peers and stay connected during this time of social distancing. Keep and eye out for more weekly prompts!
Poetry Writing Lessons for Kids: https://www.poetry4kids.com/lessons/poetry-writing-lessons/
This is a really great resource for those who've never written poetry before. Learn how to craft different kinds of poems, but most important, have fun with it!
Need some inspiration? Check out funny poems like this one!

There are so many different ways to make poetry art. Blackout Poetry re-purposes an old piece of work into something new and unique. But there's lots of different ways of turning poetry into art, or art into poetry.
Try some of these below:
Hopefully these activities help break up the day and get your family engaging in the wonderful art of poetry.
If your kids loved these activities, feel free to send us feedback or
