1000 Books Week Twenty-Two

Halloween is almost upon us! Pumpkins need carving, ghouls are hanging about - and watch out for spiders falling from the ceiling!

We have some new faces in our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program this week. Big welcome to Cory and Andrea Henning, Haven and Jude McIntyre, Carson Miller, and Trent Poulsen!

Our last Star Reader of the Week was Sloan. This week's Star Reader is Andrea! Congratulations!

Our last Book of the Week was "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly", a cautionary tale about being careful what you eat!

In honor of our Zombie Walk this afternoon, and October's Zombie theme at the library, our twenty-second book of the week is "Zombie in Love", by Kelly DiPucchio.

"Mortimer is looking for love. And he’s looking everywhere! He’s worked out at the gym (if only his arm wouldn’t keep falling off). He’s tried ballroom dancing lessons (but the ladies found him to be a bit stiff). He’s even been on stalemate.com. How’s a guy supposed to find a ghoul? When it seems all hope has died, could the girl of Mortimer’s dreams be just one horrifying shriek away?" - Antheneum Books for Young Readers.

Stay tuned for our next Star Reader and Book of the Week! Keep up the good reading!

Welcome to the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program, Cory and Andrea!

Our last Star Reader was Penelope! Congratulations!

This week's Star Reader is Sloan! Congratulations!

Our last Book of the Week was "Turtle Splash: Countdown at the Pond". Our 21st Book of the Week is "There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly", by Simms Taback.

"Everyone knows the song about the old lady who swallowed a fly, a spider, a bird, and even worse, but who's ever seen what's going on inside the old lady's stomach? With this inventive die-cut artwork, Simms Tabak gives us a rollicking, eye-popping version of the well-loved poem." - the Penguin Group.

Stay tuned for our next Star Reader and Book of the Week! Keep up the good reading!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten Week 20

It sure doesn't feel like we're in the 20th week of 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.

Our last Star Reader was Silas, who unfortunately did not get his picture taken. This week's Star Reader is Penelope, one of our first participants in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program! Congratulations!

Our last Book of the Week was "The Great Sheep Shenanigans", a silly tale about a wolf in disguise.

Our 20th Book of the Week is "Turtle Splash! Countdown at the Pond", by Cathryn Falwell.

"It's a peaceful day at the pond as ten timid turtles bask in the sun.
But wait!
A bullfrog leaps, a rabbit rustles, deer appear, a chickadee chirps, and
ten - nine - eight - seven - six - five - four - three - two - one
by one the turtles dive into the water.
Splash!"

Stay tuned for our next Star Reader and Book of the Week!
