Hello all,
We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some
resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of
social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of
activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Watch for
weekend Boredom Busters on Saturday and/or Sunday. See which
ones you can do, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on
any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom
of this blog.
Today's theme is Mermaid Tales!
The Mermaid Who Couldn't: https://ebook.yourcloudlibrary.com/library/prl/Search/the%20mermaid%20who%20couldn't
Written for children aged 4+, this picture book uses a simple metaphor to show how children who have experienced neglect or who lack confidence can learn to find a sense of self-worth. It will help children explore their feeling and encourage communication.
Check it out on CloudLibrary! More digital resources available here.
Mermaid Slime Sensory Play: https://sugarspiceandglitter.com/sparkly-mermaid-slime-sensory-play/
You can never go wrong with slime for sensory play! It's stretchy, it's gooey, and you can do so much with the colours! If you don't have liquid starch, a mixture of Borax and water will do. Add a very small amount at a time to your glue until you get the perfect slime consistency. Remember, always add your colour before your slime activator (starch or Borax).
Mermaid Sand: https://niftymom.com/2014/03/coloring-salt-chalk-diy-colored-sand/
Buying coloured sand can be expensive, so DIY your own with salt and coloured chalk! Make your own Mermaid Sand for a fun craft and unique art piece. See what different shaped bottles you have lying around to make this project extra fun!
Mermaid Rocks: https://www.projectswithkids.com/how-to-draw-mermaid-scales-painted-rocks/?utm_medium=social&utm_source=pinterest&utm_campaign=tailwind_tribes&utm_content=tribes&utm_term=611748144_23281696_271761
This art project is another one with unlimited possibilities. Try different colours, different sizes and shapes. Multi-purpose them into Kindness Rocks and leave them around your neighborhood. So many ways to make this project unique to you.
Hopefully these activities help break up the day, and get your family engaging in some fantastical mermaid adventures!
