6 Weeks of Colour - Chameleons!

Our Reading Rainbow is all finished! Check it out!

Can you find your hands?

For our 2nd week of colour, we're looking at the most colourful of lizards: chameleons!

Interesting facts about chameleons:

- Chameleons can rotate their eyes in two different directions, and focus on two objects at once.

- Chameleons are not deaf, but they don't actually have ear openings. They use other senses like tough to detect vibrations and sense movement.

- There are 160 different kinds of chameleons!

We read:

The Chameleon and the Dragonfly: a Pop-Up Book, by Lorena Eliasen

Blue Chameleon, by Emily Gravett

The Mixed-Up Chameleon, by Eric Carle

A Color of His Own, by Leo Lionni

Hide and Seek, by Il Sung Na

The Chameleon Colors Book, by Gene Yates

The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse, by Eric Carle

We sang:

The Color Song: (Tune: If You're Happy and You Know It)

If your clothes have any red, any red.
If your clothes have any red, any red.
If your clothes have any red, put your finger on your head,
If your clothes have any red, any red.

Blue - finger on your shoe
Yellow - smile like a happy fellow
Brown - turn your smile into a frown
Black - put your hands behind your back
White - stomp your feet with all your might
Pink - stop and take a blink

If You're Wearing Red Today: (Tune: Mary Had a Little Lamb)

If you're wearing red today, red today, red today,
If you're wearing red today,
Jump up and shout hooray!

If you're wearing blue today ...
If you're wearing pink today ...
If you're wearing green today ...
If you're wearing yellow today ...

Next, we made our craft!

Materials:

- cardstock
-  glue
- tissue paper
- markers

We got to pick a chameleon colour to take home!

For snack, we had apple slices and grapes! Next week: flowers!

6 Weeks of Colour - Rainbows!

Welcome back to Story Time friends! After an amazing summer, we're getting back in the swing of our regular schedule!

We've made some changes to our Story Time themes this year. No more alphabet! This year we're going with themes! Our first theme is colour!

Interesting facts about rainbows:

- A rainbow is actually a complete circle of light. But, because we usually look at it from the ground, we only see a semi-circle, or arc.

- A "moonbow" is a lunar or nighttime rainbow, produced by light from the moon.

- A "fogbow" is formed by cloud and fog droplets. Fogbows are bigger and broader than a rainbow.

We read:

The End of the Rainbow, by Liza Donnelly

Except the Color Grey, by Arlene Alda

Colors Everywhere, by Tana Hoban

Elmer and the Rainbow, by David McKee

The Black Book of Colours, by Menena Cottin

My Friend the Starfinder, by George Ella Lyon

We had a special visitor on Tuesday! Miss Lorissa from Parent Link came to help us read stories and make crafts!

We sang:

Somewhere Over the Rainbow

"Mr. Sun".

"I See Rainbows" (Tune: Frere Jacques)

I see rainbows,
I see rainbows,
Way up high,
In the sky.

They are red and orange,
Yellow, green, and blue.
Purple too,
What a view!

I see rainbows,
I see rainbows,
Way up high,
In the sky.

They are made from sunshine,
Shining through the rain.
What a view,
In skies so blue!

We even sang a felt-board story!

Five Rainbow Fish Went Out One Day (Tune: Five Little Ducks)

Five rainbow fish went out one day,
Into the sea and far away.
Mama fish said "glub, glub, glub, glub,"
But only four little fish came back.

Four rainbow fish went out one day,
Into the sea and far away.
Mama fish said "glub, glub, glub, glub,"
But only three little fish came back.

Three rainbow fish went out one day,
Into the sea and far away.
Mama fish said "glub, glub, glub, glub,"
But only two little fish came back.

Two rainbow fish went out one day,
Into the sea and far away.
Mama fish said "glub, glub, glub, glub,"
But only one little fish came back.

One rainbow fish went out one day,
Into the sea and far away.
Mama fish said "glub, glub, glub, glub,"
But none of her little fish came back.

Sad mama fish went out one day,
Into the sea and far away.
Mama fish said "glub, glub, glub, glub,"
And all of her baby fish came back!

Next, we made our craft!

After we finished our craft, we traced our hands to help make a beautiful rainbow! (It's almost finished!)

For our snack, we had some yummy apple slices!

Next week, we're learning about chameleons!

The Itsty Bitsy Spider

The itsy bitsy spider climbed up the water spout,
Down came the rain and washed the spider out!
Out came the sun and dried up all the rain,
So the itsy bitsy spider climbed up the spout again!
