Hello all,
We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some
resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of
social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of
activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Watch for
weekend Boredom Busters on Saturday and/or Sunday. See which
ones you can do, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on
any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom
of this blog.
Today's theme is Outdoor Science!
Chalk Rockets: https://www.growingajeweledrose.com/2013/08/summer-fun-chalk-rockets.html
This is a super fun and explosive activity. Great if you have film canisters, or a similar container with a pop-top lid. You can also use the chalk recipe to create a variety of your own sidewalk chalk colours.
Human Sundial: https://rhythmsofplay.com/human-sundial-shadow-science-experiment/
This is a cool shadow science experiment, and a great way to learn about sundials. Pop outside a few times throughout the day when the sun is out to trace your shadows. Can you make a complete sundial?
Ice Volcanoes: http://www.readingconfetti.com/2013/08/ice-volcanoes.html
This is a twist on the usual vinegar volcano reaction. Make a little room in your freezer, pick your favourite colours, and go wild!
Bubble Snakes: https://onelittleproject.com/bubble-snakes/
Bubbles are always a crowd pleaser. Whether you're using a regular bubble wand, sticks and some yarn, or this creative twist with a bottle and a sock, the bubbles you make are always a delight! Try out this activity, and then add some food colouring in with your bubbles to make it extra exciting!
Hopefully these activities help break up the day, and get your family
engaged in the messy fun of outdoor science!
If your kids loved these activities, feel free to send us feedback or
