Boredom Busters: Star Wars Day

We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Watch for weekend Boredom Busters on Saturday and/or Sunday. See which ones you can do, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom of this blog.

Today's theme is Star Wars Day!

May the 4th (Force) be with you! Let's check out some fun games, crafts, and art to celebrate Star Wars Day!

Pool Noodle Lightsabers: https://family.disney.com/craft/how-to-make-a-star-wars-inspired-lightsaber-from-pool-noodles/

These can be made with just a few supplies, and they are perfect for all ages. Decorate your saber to your own Jedi specifications, and let the battle ensue!

LEGO Star Wars Challenge: break out the LEGO and see who can build the most convincing or intricate Star Wars inspired structure, creature, or character. Don't worry if you don't have Star Wars LEGO - the only limit is your imagination! Send us pictures of your Star Wars LEGO creations, or tag us when you post to your own social media (handles at the bottom of this blog).

Paper Plate Darth Vader Puppet: https://thechirpingmoms.com/paper-plate-darth-vader-puppet/

Okay, how cute is this? I mean ... scary. Very intimidating and dark, Darth Vader is definitely not cute ;)

Ok, in all seriousness - this craft uses minimal supplies, and if you don't have black plates, paint will work, or you could even replace the place with thick paper or felt. Make it your own, don't worry about it being perfect.

Origami Millennium Falcon: https://origamiyoda.com/submission/origami-millennium-falcon-instructions/

This one involves some patience and skill, but if you or your kids enjoy origami, give the classic Milennium Falcon a try!

Princess Leia Colour By Number: https://www.coloringsquared.com/worksheet/princess-leia-color-by-number/

Colouring is a great way to relax and de-stress. Combine that with a love of Star Wars, and you can't go wrong!

Star Wars Molten Lava Slime: https://fun-a-day.com/lego-star-wars-molten-lava-slime-for-kids/

Here's a perfect combination of science and dramatic play! Let your inner geek run wild with this fun sensory activity! If you don't have liquid starch, a solution of Borax and water will do - remember to supervise children around this material. Messy play is the best play!

Hopefully these activities help break up the day, and get your family engaged in celebrating Star Wars Day!
