Summer Reading Program Week 2: Birds Age 7-12

Summer Reading Program
Week 2: Birds
Ages 7-12

Books read:

Birds Make Nests by Michael Garland: We were able to discover how different types of birds build their nests! It was a good read where we learned lots of facts.

Hoot by Carl Hiaasen: We read the first few pages of Hoot, the kids were all very intrigued and we had to play a game of "rock, paper, scissors!" to determine who got to take it home.

Activities:

After reading our stories we went outside to play "Bird and Worm: TAG". To play this game of TAG I chose two people to be the birds first, everyone else were worms. Once a worm was tagged by a bird they had to do a "worm" like dance before they could be free.

Craft:

For our craft we made clothespin birds. To make our clothespin birds we decorated our clothespins with paint the first day we did the craft, but then switched to permanent markers as this was a bit less messy. After decorating our birds we used liquid glue to but feathers on our birds.
