Summer Reading Program Week 1: Gardens 2-6

Summer Reading Program
Week 1: Gardens
Ages 2-6

Books read:

My Garden by Kevin Henkes: The kids enjoyed allowing their imaginations to run wild while reading this book. They were able to imagine all the things they might grow in their own garden if given the chance.

The Bad Seed by Jory John: The kids found this book quite funny. They really liked the character and his journey in the book.

Activities:

We had fun looking at the garden at the library. We tried to guess what was growing in the garden. We also talked about what a garden needs in order to grow and thrive. We pretended we were little seeds and we eventually grew into tall dancing flowers!

Craft:

For our craft we made coffee filter flowers. To make coffee filter flowers we glued a coffee filter onto a coloured piece of construction paper. After gluing our coffee filter onto our page we coloured in the center of our flower, and then added a stem and leaves and whatever else we might find in our gardens.
