Boredom Busters: Ladybugs

We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Watch for weekend Boredom Busters on Saturday and/or Sunday. See which ones you can do, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom of this blog.

Today's theme is Ladybugs!

Did you know that there are more than 5000 species of ladybugs in the world? Or that they are omnivores? Check out these facts and more! We released 3000 ladybugs at the Library last spring! It was pretty amazing!

Whether you have a tutu and wings, or just a red shirt and some black circles, try some different ways to create your own ladybug costume and engage in some fun dramatic play! Take a walk through the park and see if you can spot some real ladybugs!

Our story time crew made this craft today via Facebook Live. All you need is construction paper or cardstock, googly eyes, glue, scissors, stapler, and either white chalk/crayon or paint. Add as many embellishments as you want, then rock that ladybug hat!

Songs and rhymes are a great learning tool, and fun for all ages. Check out this 5 Little Ladybugs finger play/rhyme, then dance along to Hey, Ladybug!

Hopefully these activities help break up the day, and get your family engaged in being neighbourly!

If your kids loved these activities, feel free to send us feedback or pictures on any of our social media platforms, linked below.
