Week 2: Canadian Animals ages 9-12

Ages 9-12
Week 2
Canadian Animals

I started the program off this week by reading a book to the kids.
The first book we read was "Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose" by Dr. Seuss
The children enjoyed this book!

Craft:
         Beaver Pine cones:
Materials: Pinecones, Styrofoam balls (for head), foam (for tale),
brown construction paper (for ears and teeth), googly eyes, and glue.
Instructions:
1.       Color the brown Styrofoam ball with brown marker
2.       Stick the Styrofoam ball through a one of the cone scales (near where the head would be)
3.       Glue the googly eyes on the Styrofoam ball
4.       Cut out ears from brown construction paper and glue them on the head
5.       Cut out teeth from white construction paper and glue them on head
6.       Cut out a tale from orange foam and draw checker pattern on it
7.       Glue tale to body in between scale cones

Activity:
Guess what animal I am: Have one child think of an animal in their head. Have the other children ask yes or no questions (about the animal) to try to figure out what the animal is. EX: Do you live in the forest?

Another game we played was moose vs bear:It is like tag, split the kids into two groups they are either a moose or a bear, all the bears are trying to tag the moose to make the moose bears, and vice versa. Kids must perform actions when playing the game to make it clear what team they are on.
