Who Are You?

Who are you?
Age 2’s and 3’s, 4’s and 5’s
Duration 45 minutes

1. Storytime – Welcome Song
Storytime is starting, starting, starting.
Storytime is starting, come and listen to me.

2. Read first story “When You Were Small”

3. Fingerplay- "Five candles"
Five candles on a birthday cake. Five, and not one more.
You may blow one candle out, [make blowing sound and motion]
and that leaves four!
Four candles on a birthday cake there for all to see.
You may blow one candle out, [make blowing sound and motion]
and that makes three!
Three candles on a birthday cake Standing straight and true.
You may blow one candle out, [make blowing sound and motion]
and that leaves two!
Two candles on a birthday cake helping us have fun.
You may blow one candle out, [make blowing sound and motion]
and that leaves one!
One candle on a birthday cake we know its task is done.
You may blow this candle out, [make blowing sound and motion] and that leaves none!

4. Read second story “The Family Book", “The Hokey Family” or “ABC Like Me”.

5. Fingerplay: The Family
This is my Father (point to thumb)
This is my mother (point to index finger)
This is my brother tall (point to middle finger)
This is my sister (point to ring finger)
This is the baby (point to little finger)
Oh! How we love them all! (clasp hands)
6. Craft: Family Tree
Materials needed:
green foam sheets
2 pipe cleaners
jar or cup
sand
scissors
hole punch
pens or markers
Directions:
1. Twist the pipe cleaners around each other, making one large branch.
2. .Pour the sand into the jar and "plant" your branch in the sand so that it is standing upright like a small tree.
3. Cut leaf shapes out of green construction paper. Each leaf represents someone in your family, so cut enough leaves for your parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers ... whoever you want to put on your family tree!
4. Punch a hole in each leaf and tie it to the tree.
