March to the Beat of your own Drum: Week 2
For the second week
we explored the land of music! At the beginning of the program we talked about
all the different instruments that we could think of, we talked about what
instruments we played now and what our dream musical instruments would be. Our
discussion moved into all the different sounds that we could make like
whistling, clapping and singing.
The first story we read was:
Bantam of the Opera by Mary Jane Auch
We transformed into
musicians and played some rhythms with shakers. We played a “repeat after me”
game and everyone could definitely become shaker musicians! Every one got a turn to be the leader and we made some beautiful music together!
we also read Zin! Zin! Zin! A violin. While
reading we played an activity too, every time a musical instrument was
mentioned the kids had to point to a printed off picture of the instrument! By the end of it, the kids knew the instruments so well they were pointing to the image of the instrument before I had even said the name!
After reading Zin!
Zin! Zin! We talked about all the different concerts we had been to and which
ones we would like to go see. We also discussed everyone’s favorite type of
music and their favorite bands!
We went right into
our craft which was a shaker/tambourine. We took two paper plates and decorated
them with markers and stickers. Then we stapled them together, filled them with
beads and put a ribbon around the outside!
Next week is going
to be an Out of This World Adventure! Come join as we explore space,
rockets and astronauts.
Don’t forget to bring in your reading notebook next time, with all your
readings from the past week so you can enter into the weekly prize. The prize
will be drawn Friday at 4:00!
