6 Weeks of Colour - Butterflies

Our fourth week of colour took flight! We're learning all about butterflies!

Interesting facts about butterflies:

- Butterflies can't hear, but they can feel vibrations
- Butterflies taste with their feet
- Butterflies smell with their antennae
- Female butterflies are usually bigger, and live longer than male butterflies
- Like crabs and lobsters, butterflies have skeletons on the outside of their bodies (exoskeletons)

We read:

Gotta Go! Gotta Go! by Sam Swope

Belinda the Butterfly's Beautiful Colors, by Lynn Morris

Caterpillar Dance, by Will Grace

We read a feltboard story:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar, by Eric Carle

We sang:

The Butterfly Song (Tune: "Up on the Housetop")

First comes a butterfly and lays an eggm
Out comes a caterpillar with many legs,
Oh see the caterpillar spin and spin,
A little chrysalis to sleep in.

Oh, oh, oh, wait and see,
Oh, oh, oh, wait and see,
Out of the chrysalis, my oh my,
Out comes a pretty butterfly.

The Fuzzy Caterpillar (Tune: The Itsy Bitsy Spider)

The fuzzy caterpillar
Curled upon a leaf,
Spun her little chrysalis,
And then feel asleep.
While she was sleeping,
She dreamed that she could fly,
And later when she woke up,
She was a butterfly!

Next, we made our craft!
