Dr. Seuss Storytime

Our first story time of the week fell on Dr. Seuss birthday! Dr. Seuss was born March 2, 1904. Happy Birthday!

Check out Dr. Seuss's awesome website here!

We read:

The Cat in the Hat

"Join the Cat in the Hat as he makes learning to read a joy! It’s a rainy day and Dick and Sally can’t find anything to do . . . until the Cat in the Hat unexpectedly appears and turns their dreary afternoon into a fun-filled extravaganza! This beloved Beginner Book by Dr. Seuss, which also features timeless Dr. Seuss characters such as Fish and Thing 1 and Thing 2, is fun to read aloud and easy to read alone. Written using 236 different words that any first or second grader can read, it’s a fixture in home and school libraries and a favorite among parents, beginning readers, teachers, and librarians.

Originally created by Dr. Seuss, Beginner Books encourage children to read all by themselves, with simple words and illustrations that give clues to their meaning." - Random House Books for Young Readers

Fox in Socks

"Dr. Seuss's Fox in Socks has been troubling tongues—and garnering giggles—since 1965. Written specifically to be read aloud, it features a tricky fox in socks and the progressively more difficult tongue-twisting games he plays on his exasperated friend Mr. Knox. Now available for the first time in an abridged, sturdy, board book edition, this beloved classic will have babies of all ages laughing with—and at—their parents as they struggle, like Knox, to blab such blibber blubber as muddle puddle tweetle poodle beetle noodle bottle paddle battle!"  - Random House Books for Young Readers

One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

“From there to here, from here to there, funny things are everywhere” . . . So begins this classic Beginner Book by Dr. Seuss. Beginning with just five fish and continuing into flights of fancy, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish celebrates how much fun imagination can be. From the can-opening Zans to the boxing Gox to the winking Yink who drinks pink ink, the silly rhymes and colorful cast of characters create an entertaining approach to reading that will have every child giggling from morning to night: “Today is gone. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.”

There's a Wocket in my Pocket!

"There's a Wocket in My Pocket is filled with bizarre creatures and rhymes: the nupboard in the cupboard, ghairs beneath the stairs, and the bofa on the sofa!" - Random House Books for Young Readers

We watched the scene from Horton Hears a Who, where all of the Whos in Whoville have to make as much noise as they possibly can so that the outside world can hear them! "We are here! We are here! We are here!"

For our Seuss-tastic craft, we made Thing 1 and Thing 2 hats!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss! Thank you for sharing your awesome wisdom and vocabulary with us!

"Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You." - Dr. Seuss

See you all next week!
