Boredom Busters: Art at Home

Hello all,

We are temporarily reviving our Children's Blog to provide some resources for families who are stuck at home during this period of social distancing due to COVID-19. We will put together a variety of activities for you and your families every day at 1:00 pm. Weekend blogs will go out Saturday mornings. See which ones you can do at home, and if you get the chance, share the results with us on any of our social media platforms, which will be listed at the bottom of the blog.

Today's theme is Art!

Lunch Doodles with Mo Willems!

Mo Willems is a beloved children's author/illustrator, bringing some of our favourite characters to life, like Gerald, Piggy, and of course, the Pigeon. Starting March 16th, kids can join Mo for Lunch Doodles, where Mo welcomes kids into his virtual studio, guiding kids through drawing activities using his favourite characters as inspiration.

Episode One is titled Welcome to Mo’s Studio – and it’s live now!

Snow Painting: https://happyhooligans.ca/painting-the-snow/

There are so many ways that you can do this activity. Break out the tempera paints and brushes, if you have them handy at-home.

If you have animals in your yard and are worried about them ingesting the paint, you can also do this activity with food colouring and water, which is what we've done in storytime in the past. Empty squirt bottles work great, but you can use spray bottles. Get creative and see how many different ways you can paint your yard and the snow in it!

Egg Carton Flowers: https://www.iheartartsncrafts.com/egg-carton-flowers-kids-craft/

See how many flowers you and your kids can make! A wonderful bouquet? A flower garden? Or even just a couple flowers to stick in a cup to brighten up the kitchen!

If you don't have any paper straws at home, pipe cleaners work great as well! The possibilities are endless!

Here's another fun flower painting project

Hopefully these activities help break up the day and get your family engaging in some creative and interesting art projects.

If your kids loved these activities, feel free to send us feedback or pictures on any of our social media platforms, linked below.
