Duration 45 minutes
1. Storytime – Welcome Song
Storytime is starting, starting, starting.
Storytime is starting, come and listen to me.
2. Read first story "Without You", "Lost and Found", "Little Penguin" or "Cinderella Penguin"
3. Poem: SIX LITTLE PENGUINS
Six little penguins off an iceberg did dive,
One bumped his beak, then there were five.
Five little penguins swam the ocean floor,
One saw a whale, then there were four.
Four little penguins spun around, whee-ee!
One spun off, then there were three!
Three little penguins, with nothing to do,
One went fishing, then there were two.
Two little penguins, having lots of fun,
One fell of, then there was one.
One little penguin, when the day was done,
Went home to sleep, then there were none.
3. Read second story "Where is Home, Little Pip?", "Cuddly Dudley" or "365 Penguins"
4. In the Land of Ice and Snow--fingerplay
In the land of ice and snow (shiver and say “brrr!” )
Where the freezing, cold winds blow (blow)
Lives a bird who’s quite a sight (make circles with fingers and put to eyes like binoculars)
With his suit of black and white. (run hands along side of body, then tummy)
He can swim, but he can’t fly. (swim and shake head “yes”, fly and shake head “no”)
The penguin is a funny guy!
5. Craft: Oreo Penguin Snack
Oreo cookie, Candy Corn, chocolate chip
Directions:
Divide the Oreo into two pieces. (An adult can do this easily without breaking the cookies by using a sharp knife.)
Break or cut (with serrated knife) the half that does not have the icing on it.
Push the flat part of the chocolate chip into the frosting of the Oreo cookie. This is the head.
Take the two halves of the other part of the cookie and place on icing with curved sides facing the center. These are the wings.
Use two pieces of candy corn to make the feet.
6. Colouring sheet of penguin.
Use markers to decorate penguin.
